Gatewood Global – Frequently Asked Questions

Are life jackets required?

All certified yachts carry U.S. Coast Guard–approved life jackets for every guest. Wearing one is optional for adults but required for children under 12. If you’re not a strong swimmer or want one for comfort, just ask — we’ve got you covered.

Do I need a captain, or can I drive the yacht myself?

All charters are fully crewed with a certified captain and crew. You’re here to relax — we’ll take the helm.

Is fuel included in the price?

Yes — fuel to your charter destination is included in all Gatewood Global packages.
Additional fuel charges may apply only if your itinerary changes significantly or extends beyond the standard route (such as cruising farther past Catalina or adding an extra stop).
We’ll always confirm your route and fuel coverage before you pay — no surprises.

Will we see whales or dolphins?

Very likely. Dolphins love to show off alongside our yachts, and seasonal whale sightings — including gray, blue, and humpback — are common near Newport and Catalina.
While we can’t guarantee a visit (they’re not officially on our payroll, unfortunately), your captain will always keep a lookout and adjust course when nature cooperates.

Is gratuity included?

Yes — an 18% crew gratuity is included in your total price. You’re always welcome to tip above that for exceptional service, but it’s never required.

What should I wear?

Coastal casual. Think: sun-safe, wind-friendly, and easy to move in. Bring a layer (it can get breezy) and no heels or hard-soled shoes — barefoot or boat shoes only. If you're swimming, bring a towel and dry clothes. We’ll handle the vibe.

How many guests can I bring?

The number of beating hearts onboard matters.
Each yacht is certified for a strict guest maximum (usually 6 or 12). This number excludes the captain and crew, but includes all guests — including children and infants.

Can I bring my own food and drinks?

Yes! You're welcome to bring your own snacks and beverages. We also offer curated upgrades — from champagne and rosé to private chefs, grazing boards, and onboard bartenders. Text “Add-Ons”

Is smoking allowed onboard?

Smoking is not permitted inside or in covered areas of the yacht. Some vessels allow smoking outside on the aft deck — ask your charter specialist for specifics.

What if the weather is bad?

If the captain deems conditions unsafe, we’ll do everything we can to reschedule or issue credit. Safety first, always..

How do I lock in my rate?

Your quoted rate is valid for 24 hours once availability is confirmed.
To secure it, you must submit payment and sign the Gatewood Global Verified Charter Agreement within that window.

Do I need to bring towels?

No need — fresh, plush towels are provided onboard. Just bring your swimsuit, your crew, and your best mood.

What if I get seasick?

Most of our routes stay in calm, protected waters — but if you're prone to motion sensitivity, let your captain know.
Staying outside in the fresh air and looking out at the horizon can help your body stay balanced.
We’ll always choose the smoothest course possible to keep all guests comfortable.

Gatewood Global does not provide medical advice. Please consult your physician with any health-related concerns prior to charter.

Can we fish during the charter?

While most of our yachts are designed for luxury cruising, we do offer one vessel equipped for fishing charters.
If you're interested in adding fishing to your day at sea, just mention it in your request or text “FISHING” , and we’ll match you with the right yacht.
